BACKSTORY

Challenge

Capturing the Bennett Group of Companies' 50 year story while honouring the very personal tale of its driving force, Marcia Taylor

A 50th anniversary is a huge milestone, and the Bennett Family of Companies had a ripe opportunity to mark this moment in a meaningful way. In March 2024, the group would hold its Annual Symposium Banquet, where family, friends, and partners of Bennett would celebrate a half-century in business. With this definitive deadline and no end of stories to draw on, we faced a massive challenge: to create a gorgeous book that would pay tribute to Bennett’s matriarch, Marcia Taylor, and would honour the company’s many employees, partners, agents, and drivers — all central to Bennett’s enduring success.

But how could we chronicle five decades of history (some of it pretty racy!) in a way that would illustrate Bennett’s culture in action and highlight their core values of integrity, respect, quality service, safety, spiritual commitment, family, loyalty, responsibility, and financial strength?

Solution

A purposeful and eye-catching coffee table book with Marcia’s signature style

50 Years of Faith, Family, and Freight is a fascinating record of how Marcia’s sacrifice and hard work coupled with her “Say yes” instinct have driven 50 years of re-invention and growth. It is also a nod to how Bennett earned its reputation as one of the world’s leading transportation and logistics companies. But more than capturing its history, as many of our corporate clients smartly do, this book was designed with a razor-sharp purpose: the Bennett team also wanted a meaningful gift that they could share with VIPs and community partners at their Symposium weekend that would:

  • Make Bennett’s employees and independent partners feel appreciated, deepening their engagement and pride
  • Strengthen the sense of connection and shared history that Bennett’s  people feel for their colleagues across all their locations and divisions, contributing to one cohesive culture
  • Build trust faster with acquisition targets
  • Recruit the best and most ambitious people in their fields, and onboard new employees into the culture more efficiently and successfully
The solution was a visually rich, easy-to-browse book packed with some of Bennett’s most powerful and emotionally evocative archival photography and inspiring stories. It was designed with a warm yet contemporary aesthetic to make for an enjoyable reading experience that reflects the Bennett brand and Marcia’s own signature style: smart and sophisticated, gritty, and above all grateful to God. Eye-catching pullquotes and sidebars, enticing titles, an elegant timeline of Bennett’s 50-year journey — these were just some of the ways the sprawling story was optimized for its spacious, coffee-table-style format.

Result

3,000 copies for Bennett’s Annual Symposium and 50th Anniversary party

The book was a tremendous success. When Bennett held its Annual Symposium in March 2024, upward of 3,000 books were given as gifts to attendees. Bennett’s Vice President of Corporate Business Development, Kris Rzepkowski, gave us a window into the celebrations that took place, and was even kind enough to leave us a heartwarming shout-out on LinkedIn. Now that’s what we call a happy client.

One more cool thing...

A party of the ages

This book was an ode to Marcia Taylor and the legacy she helped create, but it was also a gift to the people who are a part of the Bennett workforce. Every employee’s signature is printed inside the cover. What’s more, the event organizers arranged a yearbook-style signing during the Symposium weekend, alongside a “Decades” themed party that marked each of the five eras since the company’s founding in the 1970s. Marking your business’s 50 year anniversary can’t get better than that!
