Challenge
Celebrate 50 years without looking backward
Interface is known for leadership in two things: design and sustainability.
For five decades, the company has helped define what flooring can be, from beautiful, functional surfaces to materials that push environmental innovation forward.
As their 50th anniversary approached, Interface didn’t want a retrospective. They wanted a celebration that looked forward.
The company has long rejected the idea of conventional corporate storytelling. A dry timeline of dates and product launches wouldn’t capture what makes Interface unique.
Instead, they needed a book that reflected their evolving identity. Something that could energize employees, express values to clients, and mirror their design philosophy in both tone and visual execution.
The story had to carry their purpose. And the pages had to feel like Interface: ambitious, aesthetic, and full of momentum.

Solution
A book that embodies the brand itself
Echo began by listening. First to Interface’s global team, then to the rhythms of the company’s language and design ethos.
We were so inspired by what we heard that we organized the entire story to reflect Interface’s five core truths:
- Design a better way
- Connect the whole
- Be genuine & generous
- Embrace Tomorrow Today
- Inspire Others
These thematic elements allowed the company to tell its story without being merely chronological or self-congratulatory.
Instead, the book became an expression of Interface’s current identity and future direction.
To bring past, present, and future to life, we paired editorial and design in a tight collaboration:
- Concept-driven page layouts that reflected Interface’s aesthetic edge
- Case studies that revealed behind-the-scenes impact
- Bold typography and white space that let stories breathe
The result is not just a 50th anniversary book. It’s an artifact of culture and clarity. And it’s unmistakably Interface.
Result
A strategic celebration that lives beyond the milestone
The finished book made a strong internal and external impression.
Employees saw themselves reflected through projects, values, and visual tone. Clients and partners gained a deeper sense of what Interface stands for and how its sustainability goals align with design thinking.
Rather than closing a chapter, the book signaled a new one. It showed that the company’s first 50 years weren’t a legacy; they were a launchpad.
By centering the content around principles, not just history, Interface created a storytelling asset that will stay relevant well into the future.
It now acts as a culture piece, a conversation starter, and a quietly powerful recruitment tool.
One more cool thing ...
A sustainability timeline that reads like a manifesto
To ground the book in Interface’s purpose, we included a compact but compelling sustainability timeline.
The spread didn’t just list milestones. It told the story of an evolving and ambitious set of company priorities — from Mission Zero to Climate Take Back — and did it in language as bold as the company’s goals.
Visually, it stood out. Editorially, it tied decades of action into one high impact spread. And strategically, it anchored the company’s history in its most important driver: doing business in a way that repairs the planet.
